The Experience

Come share this beautiful place with us. We are in southern England, near Hambledon Hill, a majestic National Nature Reserve with rare species of plants. We're looking for volunteers to help us with garden maintenance: weeding, watering, clearing out sheds and organising, sweeping areas of leaves and debris. We are about one hour away from Bath, Bornemouth and Bristol and 3 hours from London. Please check the "Learn More" section

It was my first volunteering experience and it was completely positive to me. I connected very well with Val, her husband John and Coco and Flash, her dog and cat, and now, for sure every time I would be near, I will visit them, have a coffee and catch up . On the other side, the work was hard sometimes, but almost different everyday, so I was never bored nor tired to do repetitive things. Child Okeford, is a small village but I was able to enjoy the calm and nature, and there is a unique and completely amazing hill in front of the home, where I was able to see the sunset almost every day!

It was a great experience and I'm very grateful overall. The work is not so difficult and it's different every day, you don't get tired of doing the same thing over and over again and it's always related to housekeeping, gardening or dogsitting. Val has a lovely dog, Coco whom I'm going to miss a lot! (If you're not into dogs, maybe this isn't for you). I had a very comfortable private room and shared the other common area with Val's lodgers. She's uptight, especially about food and the free days: it can be only Monday and Tuesday. We had some disagreements, but nothing unmanageable, I'd say.
