What you offer

Hours per day: Help out and collaborate with your host only a few hours per week.

Use our equipped kitchen: Feel free to use our kitchen and make your own delicious food.

Free Laundry: You can use our laundry room freely.

Bikes at your disposal: You can use our bikes any time you want.

Pick Up: We will pick you up when you arrive, and take you to our property.

Support: Get help from the Worldpackers support team in case you need it, at any point of your trip.

The Experience

We are a small family run hostel with 23 beds near the Baltic Sea, just north of Kiel. We do not live at the hostel ourselves so it is nice to have someone around who is there to let us know if everything is ok. You are more or less a "normal" guest who helps us a little with cleaning, gardening or welcoming other guests. Work times are flexible and there is plenty of time to explore the area by bike. The nearest beach is 2.5km away.

It was a beautiful place! Silke is an amazing host, fun, respectful and friendly. Even did a nice BBQ for us! The schedule is super relaxed, working on the place is really enjoyable and easy. Mostly fixing little things, helping with the garden and cleaning, but nothing of it is demanding so had lots of times to walk around the fields or to the nearest beach. I loved my room so much! So comfortable and neat. I'm really happy I got the chance to be there. Would have love to stay longer!

During my stay my main task was to repair the bicycles of the hostel. We had discussed this before and I was looking forward to it. I enjoyed repairing the bikes since Silke is very flexible and understanding. In addition to the bikes I had other fun tasks were I could use my handyman skills such as building a table fixing small issues on a car and doing basic repairs around the house. I loved the area around the hostel since it was very calm and abundant with various animals in the forest nearby. I came with my motorcycle so I could discover the north of Germany and had plenty of time for it

It was my first volunteering experience and it was great! the hostel it's located in a calm, beautiful area next to the beach, easy to get with public transport. I had so much fun exploring the forests, villages and beaches near the hostel with the bicycle. The tasks were easy and satisfying. We did room renovations, wood reparation, gardening and prepare everything for the guests arrival. Silke it's a patient, honest and hard-working person. She's very flexible and the communication was great. I especially enjoyed the conversations and her stories about German culture.

We had an amazing time at the hostel. It is very peaceful and full of nature; some of our tasks included cleaning outside and picking apples, which we loved. It is a bit out of the way, but a 10 minute bike to a grocery and cafe. Easy to take bus and do larger day trips (we did CPH, it's possible!). Silke was fantastic and really cares about all of the people in the hostel. Also the rooms are so cool, I 100% recommend this experience!

I had a lovely time volunteering at the hostel. Silke is really kind and caring. It's quite isolating but the perfect place to reconnect to yourself and nature. Work is easy and breezy 🫶
