The experience

We are a warm and friendly Scottish family living a low-impact life. We practice permaculture and no-dig gardening on 3 acres of Scottish paradise. We are looking for help with the permaculture garden, the hobbit-style guest house, and creative projects which include adding more magic and inspiration to the fairy glen.

Program Details

We have been hosting volunteers for over four years and really enjoy their contributions to our special place. Volunteers help out with tasks needing to be done, such as food growing, compost making, looking after chickens and ducks, helping us clean our quirky hideaway, and taking part in creative natural-building projects. We happily create new projects from volunteers' ideas and are very flexible.
We expect a minimum of 5 hours of work per day in exchange for three meals plus accommodation in your self-contained hobbit-style pod with a double bed, private shower and toilet, a woodburning stove, comfy beanbags, and kitchen facilities.

Activities & Shift

Days and hours are flexible but a minimum of 5 hours of work per day, for 5 days per week is expected. After the evening meal, we require quiet family time, and you are free to explore or have your own quiet time in your accommodation. When you are not volunteering, your time is your own to explore as you wish.

Rules

We are foster carers and may have vulnerable young people stay whilst you are with us. We can NOT host any volunteers who have any criminal convictions concerning children and vulnerable people. We ask that you confirm this in writing before coming to our home.

No drugs, no parties and no loud music!

We simply ask our volunteers to be respectful of our place, our family, and our local community.

You must take care of your accommodation at all times, and leave it as clean as you found it. We reserve the right to charge for cleaning when you leave, or ask you to leave if you do not keep it in reasonable order.

You are free to leave at any time if you are unhappy and we reserve the right to ask you to leave if you disrespect and break any of our rules.
