Program Details

We do ~25 hours a week, depending on you experience in the area we're looking for. Usually we do at least 2 day off and we try to give you a few days heads up about the schedule - generally we do it on Friday for the following week - and we are flexible if you let us know before-hand of any open times you need. We check in with you pretty regularly to make sure you have everything you need and you're enjoying the tasks you're doing - we're still struggling from everything that happened (and is happening) with the pandemic, so we need folks who can work independently but keep the balance of communication to be on the same page. We're a low key hostel and currently focusing a lot on mental health of our staff and volunteers.

Activities & Shift

When you arrive, you'll have a meeting with our volunteer coordinator to go over expectations, questions/doubts; you'll also build out the "plan" for your stay. These are all things you would have discussed with us by video chat (if possible) before-hand. You'll set up, serve, and clean up the breakfast 5 times a week, from ~ 7:15am-10:15am (there is also the possibility of doing this 6x a week, and because you'd have 1 day off less, then you'd have less hours overall). In the afternoon or a bit after breakfast (let us know if you want your hours all together), you'll spend the rest of the time helping with cleaning tasks (+ things like going for change for reception, buying last minute items, bringing up the laundry 4 stairs) and watering plants. If you have any other skills that you want to explore and think would be useful, we're open to seeing how we can work together on that!

Rules

We have pretty standard rules, though unfortunately right now we can't allow visitors of guests, staff, or volunteers (it's due to a security consideration). You can't drink or use substances in an obvious way in the hostel nor if it affects that way you work. We will not tolerate any form of hate speech, nor any type of disrespect towards anyone else in the hostel -- especially towards our staff or volunteers. Ask us for more details and other rules!
