The experience

We're a nonprofit organization that provides high quality daycare and preschool education to children with the greatest need in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Our center affords low-income working parents the confidence and security of knowing their children are fed, cared for, and supported on their path to a brighter future. Activities include: Assisting the teacher, playing with children, arts/crafts, field trips and others.

What you offer

28 hours of help per week

Child Care: Caring for, playing with, and spending time with children.

Arts: Help with painting, graffiti, sculpting or drawing.

Social Work: Help with volunteer work in local projects and communities.

Teaching Languages: Teaching a language to the host, guests, or local communities.

Additional fee required

Amount: US$ 180 Per week

Fee pays for: Donation to project

Description: All accommodation fees are a direct, 100% donation to Centro Infantil de los Ángeles. Each donation will be used for the benefit of our children at the center: for food, teacher salaries, classroom supplies and maintenance. We make every donation count and really appreciate the volunteers’ support in these efforts.

What you get

2 days off per week

Private Room: You will have a bed in a private room. In other words, a room just for you.

Shared Dorm: You will have a bed in a shared room, which means you will share the same room with other travelers.

Breakfast: You are entitled to a free breakfast, every day of your stay.

Lunch: You are entitled to a free lunch, every day of your stay.

Free Laundry: You can use our laundry room freely.

Pick Up: We will pick you up when you arrive, and take you to our property.

Use our equipped kitchen: Feel free to use our kitchen and make your own delicious food.

Program Details

Centro Infantil de los Ángeles (CILA) is a nonprofit organization that provides high quality daycare and preschool education to children with the greatest need in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Our center affords low-income working parents the confidence and security of knowing their children are fed, cared for, and supported on their path to a brighter future.

Activities & Shift

During your volunteer stay with us, you will be assigned to a particular area to help at the Preschool or at the Daycare in one of our five classrooms. Activities include: Assisting the teacher, playing with children, arts/crafts, field trips, etc. Occasionally volunteers have the opportunity to help with local fundraising events by conducting outreach and assisting with set-up and clean-up. Volunteers are expected to help at the Preschool Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. -Volunteers are free weekdays in the afternoons, and on weekends.

Rules

Since it is sometimes challenging to work with young children, it is very important for volunteers who are considering this experience to have the love, creativity, energy, and willingness to help pre-school children. We also strongly recommend that volunteers have studied or demonstrate an interest in studying Spanish prior to and during their time with us. That way, volunteers can be the most useful in the classroom and have the most rewarding experience possible.
